Hovis Bread’s Great New Ad

by Jeff Abbott on September 29, 2008

Since I’ve been complaining about Microsoft’s bad ads, here’s an example of a great one–for Hovis Bread in the UK. The ad plays on Hovis’s most famous image (from a long-ago and much admired commercial of a boy on a bike delivering Hovis) and juxtaposes it with the past 100 years of British history. It’s beautiful and thoughtful, never talks down to the audience (like so many ads do) and it does what it’s supposed to: I really want a loaf of Hovis bread. (I am out of luck, being in Texas.)
