Curious About Kindle?

by Jeff Abbott on November 18, 2008

I’m wondering if any blog visitors have yet embraced the Amazon Kindle, the Oprah-approved e-book reading device. I am a staunch defender of the traditional book; but I have to say I’m tempted, just because I have to read a lot of nonfiction in my book research, and the Kindle versions are cheaper, searchable, and don’t take up three shelves of bookspace. Plus, no one can see what I’m reading–I’ve made relatives nervous with books on forensics, terrorist psychology, and money laundering. At the same time, Kindles aren’t cheap, and I still have a hard time imagining anything can replace the ease of the book.
Have you bought a Kindle? Are you happy with it? Let me know.

Waiting for the price to drop–a lot. I started noticing for some books not in print that they have a Kindle version. I would like to see that happen with a lot of hard to find books.

I want one for travel, doc appointments, ect. I could never ever go with out my actual books. But when the price drops this will be something nice to carry in my purse to pass the time. It would probably only contain my most favorite books, the ones I can over and over again at any given moment.

Oh. My. God, I love my Kindle. I’m a fan of real books, but in a year, the hubby and I want to move into an RV full-time and live on the road. (Modern gypsies!) So lugging books around is out.
After combining two Christmases, a Birthday, and not buying books for a year (okay, I bought like five), I finally bought a Kindle. I instantly read three times as many books, because I always had the Kindle with me, and it has ALL MY BOOKS on it!
And whenever I think of a book I want to read, I download a sample.
The new Sony Reader is cool, but the Amazon Kindle instant connect to the store and instant download without connecting to my computer is UNBEATABLE.
My husband, not much of a reader and a hater of technology, now uses it every second I’m not using it. He buys himself maybe six books in a year. In the three months we’ve had the Kindle, he has consistently bought and read three books a week.
It’s one of those things: since I bought it, I have no idea how I ever lived without it. I will never go back. Ever.
The best part? I can carry HUNDREDS of books at all times! All those books, right there, anytime I want them!

You may want to take a look at as that might be a good interim solution for you to see how it works for you.
I haven’t tried it, but it looks pretty good.
